It's a whole new world. 20 years ago there was no sports adventure. There was no bungee jumpers. No skateboarding, no mountain biking. Whatever sports there were only involved amateur performers. Mark Spitz had to quit competing in swimming because athletes were not allowed compensation. He might have won three more gold medals and ended up with ten, but he couldn't accept money so he had to go to work.
Today, it's a whole new world. So called amateur athletics admits the Dream Team to these sacred Olympics, made up of professional basket ball players. Track and field and athletes from every walk of life attract sponsors willing to ante up megabucks to have there names on the backs of these dedicated athletes.
The world of soccer has changed too. Who would have thought that Japan and Korea, ancient enemies, would join together to host a World Cup? And for the first time in history, millions of us saw cultures from Africa, Latin America and other parts of the worlds they had never seen before. We saw Nigerian and other Africans playing with the support of their native healers. We saw Brazilians playing the samba. dancers and musicians. We saw the Asians in their colorful garb, music, and art.
The world of sport tourism is a new phenomena. Before an international tournaments meant traveling within Europe or within Latin America. Now we have tournaments where athletes and teams can come from around the world. And its not just the World Cup. Now children of twelve travel around the world to play the game. There are tournaments in every continent that attract children in every age.
In this new world of sport tournament and Sports Adventure Tourism (SAT) who are the major participants? Those in the developing countries have the beautiful mountains, the deserts, the cliffs, the waterfalls, the beautiful pine and other forests, the excellent beaches and inland waterfronts. With the right SAT skills and marketing knowhow, they can become the major destinations of choice for those from the jaded North.
But in order to develop the Sports Adventure Tourism field in a sustainable way and to ensure that it is profitable and conserves your environment, you will need the Sports Adventure Tourism Sustainable Economic Development Systems (SATSEDS).
Why does everyone want to come to the United States? It is because of our business systems. Our roads are straight. Our buildings are put together right.
