Luis Sandoval Is Dynamic

Luis Sandoval is the initiator of the Community Tourism Business Community in Arboleña. His family is Latino. Luis is the first Certified Soccer Tourism Strategist ever certified from Arboleña. While studying forestry in the USA, he began studying Community Tourism methods of community development by Interactive Distance Learning. 

Luis is young, open to change, innovative and dedicated to his family. His goals include achieving riches before he finds a wife. He wants a wife to be submissive, not educated in the States. He is very chauvinistic about his own wife. His mother was very submissive and Luis loved her very much. He wants a wife just like his mother.

In spite of his personal chauvinism, he respects women as working partners and believes that women who are educated are his equal. He just doesn't want his wife to be his equal. He wants his wife to cater to his needs, live a gentle life and have him and the children he plans to have as her reason for existence.

Manual Sandoval Is Loyal

Manuel is Luis's younger brother. He went to the agricultural school in Arboleña but has no interest in farming. He has always wanted to have business of his own. He is married to Carla, an AfroIndian from the East Coast of Arboleña. He is totally loyal to the family and especially is willing to follow Luis. He is interested in machinery, and innovative development of machines.

Carla Sandoval Is Supportive

Carla is the brilliant young wife of Manuel. She was an excellent student at the agricultural school. That is where she met Manuel. The school officials wanted her to go to the university in Nontepeque or even to the States. Scholarships were made available but Carla knew what she wanted. Her family was very backward and unwilling to accept her intelligence as a woman.

She was happy to get the chance to marry Manuel, who respected her as his wife. She fits in well in the Sandoval family, as she and Papa Raoul began working together on the farm. She learned about computers and the Internet when Professor Alicia Calderon came to the school and talked about computers in farming.

Alicia Calderon Is Charismatic

Alicia Calderon is the catalyst, the driving force behind the creation of the New Arboleña. Alicia's humiliation in Brazil at the hands of women who were richer than her transformed her. She realized that in Arboleña she was the highest of the high. But she met people in her work with the Organization of American States who had never even heard of Arboleña.

She is a genius, a change genius. She has the ability to see. When she traveled to Asia she saw that the class creating the great wealth there was the middle class. She saw millionaires being created. She realizes that since Arboleña is such a small country, she will need every one of its 600,000 people working for her.

Alicia understands her culture. She knows she cannot lead openly since she is a woman. Even a Calderon woman, the elite of the elites cannot lead a country. So she understands she must work through others. So she sets up to drag Arboleña into the 21st century so that she can be super rich. She is founder and director of the Computer Center at the University of Arboleña at Nontepeque. The Calderons are of pure Spanish descent. Alicia is blond, tall and slender with an aristocratic bearing.

Roberto Sandoval Is Mature and Self Confident

Roberto is the oldest son of Raoul Sandoval. He has very high self esteem and is very dedicated to his family. He studied at the University of Arboleña in Nontepeque, obtaining a Bachelors degree in business. He loves accounting and works for a US firm. He has taken additional classes in accounting and went to the USA and studied for a CPA. He met Alicia Calderon about four years ago when he was taking a special course at the University of Nontepeque on " computers in business".

He felt a jolt off recognition when he met Alicia but refused to acknowledge it. he reused to spend any time with her because she was a Calderon, an elite of the elite. And he was from a ranching family from across the Rio Branco, the "Wild West" of Arboleña.

Roberto is dedicated to his family and does not want to jeopardize his family future by trying to "go above his station". He is a Latino but with slightly frizzy hair and full lips hark back to an African ancestor somewhere in the past.

Papa Raoul Sandoval Is Nurturing

Raoul Sandoval has raised all his children with high self esteem. After the recent death of his wife, he has had some problems readjusting. He supports Luis fully when he comes home and wants to start the family business. Papa Raoul loves his cattle and ranching. But he believe that Luis when he says there is need for a new direction for the family.

When Manuel brings Carla home, Papa Raoul accepts her readily. She is so obviously in love with the land and Manuel. Papa Raoul is not chauvinistic. He accepted the gift of his wife's submission. But he is open to women's capabilities.

Papa Fernando Calderon Is Aristocratic

Don Fernando Solteno Calderon is known as "El Don" by his people. He was a dueler in his youth, killing 32 men with even turning a hair. He is aristocratic, straight backed in his bearing and the absolute elite of elites of Arboleña. He heads the Banco de Arboleña. He rules the Calderon clan with ease and facility.

He is tall and slender with blonde hair turning to gray. He has always indulged Alicia as his favorite, being unable to refuse her anything.

Juan Sandoval Is Sensitive And Moody

Juan is the introspective, moody, intellectual Sandoval. He played alone as a child, preferring to read, draw and paint and loved classical music. He hated any work on the Rancho. He went to school at the University and become a lawyer. He has just been elected head of the Export office in Arboleña as the story begins.

He is a loyal brother and son. He has never loved the land but works from his office in the capital to protect the interest of the family. He is especially close to Elena. Juan is very clean, very sensitive, very meticulous, clean and demanding. He is thin, about 5 foot 8 with blondish hair. He harks back to the Spanish ancestor of the Sandovals. He prefers his women of Spanish and Latino descent only.

Elena Sandoval Is Conscientious

Elena is the only daughter of Raoul Sandoval. Elena now works at the Aduana. She wanted to be a teacher, but could not stay away from the rancho for the four years needed to take the program. She finished two years of college but her mother was ill and Elena came home to live. Before her mother's death she worked in the local government office of the Rio Branco Departmento. She stayed at home. After her mother's death, she moved to the Port City, working in the Aduana.

Elena is about 5 foot 6 inches tall, with black hair and look like a typical Latina woman. She is loyal to her brothers, dedicated to her family and obedient to her father. She nurtures her brothers and is very close friends with Carla. When Manuel married she was very happy to have another woman in the household with all the brothers she has. She is not interested in marriage as she does not want to end up like her mother. She loved her mother but does not want to be subordinated to a man. Any man she marries would have to exceptional.

Marcella Ramos Is Alive And Electric

Marcella is pure Mayan Indian, descendent from Mayan royalty. She is a talented artist, with highs self esteem. She has red hair and copper colored skin. She has a full lush figure and is quite spectacularly beautiful. She does not wish to marry. Marcella takes men into her life when she wants to and removes them when she tires of them. She is dedicated to her family and her village and the betterment of the Mayan people. She employs local people in making pictures of butterfly wings.

Marta Gonzalez Is Brilliant

Marta is a pure Garifuna, the African people who live on the Caribbean Coast of Arboleña. They are the descendants of Africans who escaped into the rain forests of Eastern Arboleña and never knew slavery. They live in villages, dance the dances of Africa, wear their hair braided in long braids and enjoy the freedom of their culture. Marta was a girl who could not dance very well so she had turned her talents to school.

She learned math easily. She became a math teacher and was posted near the Western Frontier to teach math. When Alicia gave a series of workshops on computers for teacher in Arboleña, Marta was enthralled. Because of her interest, she was able to get an old computer from Alicia. She immediately mastered it and began teaching all the students. Alicia followed up her workshops and once she found out what Marta was doing, brought her to the Computer Center in Nontepeque to study. Marta was a brilliant student and is now on the staff of the Center teaching the Internet and computer.

Her father is the leader of the Garifuna community.

Tomas Brooks Is Strong And Fearless

Tomas is half Garifuna and half white Isleno from Honduras. He grew up first in the Bay Islands of Honduras and then his father moved to Arboleña. He became a wrestler and because of his strength becomes famous among the Garifunas.

He has been in the States studying Security. His goal is to head the security for the Aduana in the port city of Arboleña. He has always been in love with Marta, but she never noticed him. She will not marry anyone who is not "pure Garifuna".

Tomas was invited to join the CIA and FBI after he received a Masters Degree in Security and Intelligence. But Tomas returns home to head the Aduana and seek the love of Marta.

Danolo Calderon Is Growing and Developing

The nephew of Don Fernando Calderon, he has a long way to go to reach his destiny. He works in the Banco de Arboleña and manages the safe money of the elites of Arboleña. He puts most of his money in the United States in bonds, government bonds, CD and other safe havens.

He was educated in Spain, has always lived and interacted only with his own social class. He does not reach out to the poor and is very narrow in his world view. He has never had an interest in traveling in the world, except in Spain, Argentina and Miami in the United States. His interests are jai alai, polo, horse racing, cock fighting (watching) and tennis. He loves flamenco music, classical music and Old Masters in art. He has no interest in the history of Arboleña.

His social life evolves around other aristocratic girls in his set. His goal is to be head of the Banco de Arboleña. After all he is a Calderon.

He invests the money conservatively in CDs and bonds of blue chip companies in the USA and Europe. He also invests in US Treasury instruments. He has no plans to invest any money in Arboleña and does not like the idea of risk. He advises the elites and aristocrats to take their money offshore to the States and to Europe. He helps his clients to get Swiss Bank accounts as well as offshore trusts. He is a part of the money drain out of Arboleña.

Sergio Herrera Is Compassionate

Sergio is a blond haired poor blanquito from the poor section on the Eastern side of Arboleña. His people are poor and his goals in life is to help them. He has even thought about going into the priesthood just so he can serve the people. His uncle is Padre Herrera.

His interests centers around finding solution to the problems of poor children, poor people and the needs of women in Arboleña. He has already worked to develop low income womens groups. He sold his land and gave the money to the poor. He is interested in developing a nonprofit organization and wants to try to raise money from overseas. He wants to work with the poor and homeless of Arboleña.

Padre Herrera Is Shepherding

Padre Herrera is dedicated to the needs of the people of Arboleña. He does not believes in the ideas of radical theology. He knows that something must be done. He is willing to give whatever he has to bring about positive change in Arboleña. He will work with anyone. He entered the priesthood very young. His family was poor and his family "gave" him to the church. He was an altar boy and has always looked forward to the life of the church.

Padre Herrera is posted to a small church in Marcella's village of Rosario. He is friends with Marcella and has brought his nephew Sergio to help him serve the people. Padre Herrera has always had an interest in knowing more about all the people of Arboleña. He feels that all the people are the children of God and should be loved and cared for that way. He is well loved by all the people in his parish.

Guillermo Calderon Is Creative

Guillermo is the creative genius of the Calderon clan. He and Alicia are very close, closer than with any other members of the Calderon family. They are both dedicated, hard working and have a goal. Together he and Alicia have opened an art gallery in Nontepeque.

Guillermo is typical Calderon, blond, slender, handsome, charming and very self contained. He is very open, much more worldly than Danolo and dates women who interest him. He has dated Indian women, Afroindian women, and even dated a Garifuna once. Guillermo is bold, free and dashing. He wears his hair longer than the rest of the Calderons. He dresses very boldly with bright colors and patterns. He meditates with trees and enjoys New Age items like crystals, candles and incense. He does not care what other Calderons think. He is free within his own mind.

Jose Ramos Is Versatile And A Leader

Jose is the brother of Marcella. Jose is a typical Mayan Indian with a roundish face, copper red skin and red hair. He is articulate, social and work with his people to try to help them. He was educated at the university of Nontepeque, came back to the village and started his own business. Right now he is working with Marcella to form an artisans group so they can sell the work of local Indian artisans in Nontepeque, the Port city and San Martin.

His art form is painting. He also does computer based designing, supports the arts and works with the people in his village. His goals are to raise the income level of the people at the same time they maintain cultural values.

President Alfredo Nunez Is Social

President Nunez is a Lenca Indian who comes from a prosperous family in the Western Mountains. He is educated as a lawyer and always knew hew would go into politics. he is self assured, with high self esteem. he is proud of himself and sees himself as the leader who will bring Arboleña out of its problems. He is chauvinistic, forcing his schoolteacher wife to cater to his needs. He is dedicated to her, protecting her, and he loves her very much. He wants he by his side at all time.

He has the potential be a great leader in Arboleña. And he is open to new ideas and will do anything to help his country. Of course he will take complete credit for any ideas created by those working with him. He is after all a politician.

He is very close with his family and extols the Lenca values of his ancestors. He is strong, alert, and willing to listen to all ideas that can lead to positive change in Arboleña. He is willing to listen and learn and then take positive action.

Anita Nunez Is Self Effacing

Anita Nunez was a schoolteacher when she married Alfredo Nunez. At the time he was a minor official in his state in the Western Mountains. She was teaching school in Nontepeque. Yet since they were both Lenca Indians, they came to know each other.

Anita was happy teaching because of her love for the children of Arboleña. She is small about 5 foot 3 inches tall, a little plump but not unpleasing. She has the typical Lenca hair of dark red almost brown. However, she has very pale skin which harks back to a Spanish ancestor, She is soft spoken, kind and gentle. She spends her time building Alfredo's self esteem and making sure he feel comfortable and happy.

Renaldo Nunez Is Dedicated

Renaldo Nunez is the first cousin of Alfredo. He is a successful cattleman with over 10,000 hectares of land. After graduating at the agricultural school, he went to the State and earned a Masters degree in Animal science with minor in agronomy. He has used his knowledge to build up a large herd of crossbreed cattle.

When his cousin was elected president, he immediately reached out to Renaldo and tagged him for the position of Minister of Agriculture. Renaldo has moved quickly to modernize the department and has initiative a series of training programs for the nations extension office. He met Alicia Calderon in the States when she was giving some workshops at the OAS. They became friends there. She has served as an information conduit for him

When Alicia returned home, Renaldo helped her get the computer center at the university set up. He has served as her mentor and friend because he believes she can have a positive economic impact on Arboleña. He introduced Alicia to the president and sets up her role as advisor to the President for creating the export entrepreneurial culture in Arboleña.

Lara Nunez Is Self Assured

Lara Nunez is the premier artist in Arboleña. During her entire marriage to Renaldo, she has been practicing her art. He respects her as a person and respects her talent. He has encouraged her to travel all over Latin America the States and Europe to show her art.

She has developed her own unique style of painting, and no one can misunderstand a Lara Nunez painting for one by anyone else. She is also a renown interior decorator, incorporating native arts into her decors. She works with her cousin in his building firm. She specializes in designing interiors that bring the outsides into the building. She loves using locally quarried stone, marble and other native rocks.

Once Renaldo accepted the role of Minister of Agriculture, she has turned the work in her interior design firm over to her assistants and staff. She is willing to dedicate these four year to being the hostess for Renaldo, building his self esteem and serving as his helpmate. She is eagerly awaiting their return to private life.

John Porter Is Business Focused

John Porter is the founder and owner of an American firm which has factories in San Martin. They manufacture a wide variety of products, wood products, assemblies electronic parts, assembles garments. He is in a special industrial are of the government which is designed to stimulate companies to come into Arboleña.

John is ready to retire to the States. He and his wife want to travel in their Airstream over the USA. He is seeking to find someone local who he can turn over his business to. He has picked Roberto Sandoval and is seeking to provide him with the fact of business. He is teaching Roberto the dirty tricks of business to watch out for. He believes that Roberto is the person he can turn his business over to. John is balding, 62 years old and has been in Arboleña for 15 years. His children are now in college in the States and his wife is ready to go back home.

Silvia Lee Is Efficient

Silvia Lee is a widow. She is a Chinese who has lived in Arboleña for many years. Her husband and she migrated from Mainland China to live in Arboleña. She and he operated a hotel and had a equipment import firm. In China she worked for the government in banking. After her husband's death, when her son Chang was 12 years old, she went back to banking, working for the Interamerican bank. She worked for the bank 10 years. Now she has been tapped by Alicia Calderon to head Arboleña's first Export bank.

Silvia is very small, about 4'11" tall. She is delicate like a Chinese porcelain doll. But their is nothing delicate about Silvia's spirit. She is strong, indomitable and determined to play an important role in Arboleña's future. What she learned from working at the Interamerican Bank has shown her some of the things that must be done in Arboleña. Together working with Alicia, she will be able to do these things.

Chang Lee Is Innovative

Chang is Silvia's son. He dresses elegantly in Chinese silks and is a devotee of the Martial Arts. Indeed he own a martial arts dojo that is operated by a marital artist from China. Chang has taken the small equipment export firm of his father and increased it in size. He specializes in agriculture and forestry equipment. On a recent trip to China, he found out about some small scale Chinese machinery that he wants to import to Arboleña. His goal is to make Arboleña the regional hub for selling this equipment into Central and South America.

Chang is 5'8 inches tall, very handsome and slender. He drives a Land Rover. He likes all women from AfroIndian to Garifuna, to Latina to Chinese, to Lebanese. He is very gentle but with his martial arts training, Chang is not to be trifled with.

Chang owns 4000 hectares of land on the Caribbean coast of Arboleña.

Wanda Makari Is Environmentally Sensitive

Wanda Makari is a Lebanese belonging to the number one trading family in Arboleña, the Makari. From birth she has been trained and focused into someday marrying another Lebanese. The chosen one is from the another trading family distant cousins. She of course is expected to join him in working with him in the trading business.

Wanda is 5' 1, with beautiful almond eyes. She is a typical Arboleña upper-class Arab girl. She is exceptionally intelligent and very focused on the environment. When her father sends her to the States to study international business, she takes an environmental course. She loves it so much she changes her major without telling her father.

She goes on to take a major in environmental studies and then takes a job working for an environmental group. Her father is very angry and tells her she must be a trader to be a Makari. When she refuses he tells her she no longer belongs to the Makari family.
