Fitoremediation is the mutualistic use of the Fitoremediation Plant Spectrum (FPS - an ecotone based selection of microbes, land plants, water plants and derived products) for regeneration of our Earth.
The Leucaena
Production Society works
mainly in tropical regions
and developing countries. A special project
for Fitoremediation of Central America after Hurricane Mitch is
being developed. Through a proprietary ecotone based selection
system, the LPS selects the species spectrum for each local area.
The Leucaena Production Society is dedicated to
regenerating the environment on our planet in sites where human
action has been destructive. The image shows a Contaminated

Bioremediation
PhytoRemediation
Phytoengineering
Ecological Restoration
Ecocommunity Plantscaping
Vetiver
duckweed
poplar
grasses

sesbania
sweetgum
fast growing pines
eucalyptus
miscellaneous grasses
tropical shrub legumes

Bioremediation
The use of microbes and plant derived products to remove contaminants from soils:
A. Use Of The Fitoremediation Plant Spectrum Based Living Microbes To Consume and Transform contaminants
1. Surface treatment of soil through the use of living microbes to lower the number of TPH in soils

2. Subsurface treatments of contaminated soil through
a) mixing with soils
b) injection into the soil
c) plow and flow through systems
B. Use Of The FPS Derived Products For Removal of Oil Spills from soil, wood, concrete or water
Phytoremediation
The use of growing plants to regenerated
affected lands - Phytoremediation includes growing the
leucaena trees, tropical sweetgum, Pinus caribea,
duckweeds, eucalyptus, water hyacinths, vetiver as well
as other plants to regenerate affected lands. The
FPS mulch can be used as a soil amendment for
amelioration of odor and control of flies and as a shade
base for beginning the planting of other species.
Landfarming of affected sites with the FPS and a spectrum
of species is a key methodology used here. Also the
FPS and products derived from these plants are used
to modify contaminants, as well as growing the plants on
affected soil and these disposal. The image above is a
Eucalyptus tree.
Phytoengineering
The selection,
placement and ultimate use of the FPS and other plants to prevent
soils erosion, runoff and land degradation. This
include making preventive plantings such as
Vetiver and other soil holding species . This is for
the prevention of soil erosion when flood or high water
occurs. Grass waterways, land breaks come into this
category.

Ecocommunity Plantscaping
The development of
new ecologically sound, stable communities in highly degraded
areas - often as a successional system to
eventually return to a stable vegetation
complex. Many site of areas have been very degraded and
cannot be restored to former complexity. Or perhaps the economic
factors are not in place to enable a complete development of a
complex ecosystems. In such cases Ecocommunity Plantscaping would
combine the development of a desert type landscape
with minimum requirement for plant growth. This of course
if it is to be used for public uses must involved the previous
step of the FPS based bioremediation, phytoremediation, etc.
Ecological Restoration
The restoration of the local vegetation spectrum - returns the habitat to a close if not perfect match to the predegradation species complex. This would involve a long term plan to move the site through a series of successional periods over time. The FPS could be used at the bioremediation stage to remove contaminants, then through Phytoremediation stages to bring back vegetation to the site and then a series of successional phases to return the site to original vegetation types such as bunch grasses, native wild flowers, etc., depending on site characteristics and desired end use. The FPS would also be used as a mulch during specific stages.
A Selected FPS Species Complex As Well As FPS Based Products Can Be Used In All Fitoremediation Based Earth Regeneration Systems
It's because of the many unique characteristics of the FPS that we utilize the FPS in all of these technologies.
The Leucaena Production Society offers you the knowhow, question and answer sessions, an online newsletter called "FPSREM" as well as access to the FPS seeds, the FPS products and consultancy for developing your own the FPS project. FPSREM will also be published on the Leucaena Production Society website.
