The Famine Cycle Model

"The Leucaena Based Livestock Feeding System was offered for the first time this week by of the Leucaena Production Society, an organization of tropical Leucaena growers, began its outreach to reverse the deforestation and desertification of tropical forests by replacing the Famine Cycle Model of developing countries with the Leucaena Effect Agroforestry program.

Famine cycle model

World population today is at 6 1/2 billion people, expected to be 12 billion in another 30 years.  In may opinion, we have already exceed the carrying capacity of the planet at anything like a reasonable quality of life.  When we reach 12 billion, life will be much more difficult.

Whether 6 billion or 12 billion, people have certain basic needs

With the 6 billion people we have now, much of our planet is operating in the "famine cycle model"

FCM - Step 1  Population Increases

FCM - Step 2 - Increased Tree Cutting for

a)  fuelwood (heating, heating water and cooking)

b) Increased land clearing and tree cutting for agriculture

FCM - Step 3  Deforestation effects begin

FCM - Step 4  Soil Erosion

FCM - Step 5  Soil surface becomes packed and hard

FCM - Step 6   Rainfall lowered due to loss of wick  for bringing up water from subsoil

FCM - Step 7  Drought and Resultant loss of livestock

FCM - Step 8  Famine

FCM - Step 9  Large scale starvation and loss of human life

This FCM has already occurred in the Sahel countries of North Africa.  There are many other countries with areas that are in this model right now.

How do we prevent our entire planet from entering the Famine Cycle Model?

We replace it with the Leucaena Effect Agroforestry Model (LEAM).  Here are the steps in the LEAM:

LEAM - Step 1  Population Increases

LEAM- Step 2 - Increased Tree Cutting for

a)  fuelwood (heating, heating water and cooking)

b) Increased land clearing and tree cutting for agriculture

LEAM - Step 3  Deforestation effects begin

LEAM - Step 4  Soil Erosion

LEAM - Step 5  Soil Surface Becomes Packed & Hard

LEAM - Step 6  -Reforestation With Leucaena
