Getting the Message Out Locally and on the Internet

We all believe in the wonderful positive effect soccer has had in the lives of your children. Soccer for Life is leading the way in sharing the beautiful game with the poor children of Honduras. We have already shipped many boxes of collected uniforms to Honduras but the need is great. In La Esperanza, 450 boys are playing soccer with the Liga Menor. But there is no soccer program for girls. And there are thousands of kids in this one community that would love to play soccer.

Chances are your closets, garages and basement have old soccer uniforms, soccer cleats, shin guards, soccer socks and perhaps even a net or two. But how can we get the message out and get other soccer parents, coaches and teams involved? We are in need of a critical mass of soccer donors to enable us to give soccer to the 5000 children in La Esperanza alone who want to play soccer. We need YOU to get the ball rolling in your area.

A key project of Soccer For Life is the Honduras Youth Soccer Program which includes a soccer gear donation project and the Youth Soccer Leaders Program. Soccer for Life is working with the Liga Menor de Futbol Intibucana to develop the Honduras Youth Soccer Center. You are invited to take a look at some Scenes of Youth Soccer in Intibuca, photos of youth playing soccer in Intibuca using uniforms collected by Soccer for Life and shipped to Honduras. We are building the Intibuca Youth Soccer Center as a residential soccer academy and complex.

Soccer for Life has done a lot to bring the awareness of the needs of the children in Honduras for collected soccer gear in its local area as well as on the Internet. Now you can do the same thing in your local area and create more soccer gear donation awareness.

Soccer for Life now gives readers of our website the step by step guidelines you need to promote and publicize the soccer gear donation project using these specific activities. Each of the these steps have been taken in Soccer for Life's local area already.

1. Decision Making And Planning

1. Make the decision to promote the soccer gear donation project in your local area

It is vital that you realize that a great deal of your time will be required if you are going to create local awareness of the needs of youth in Honduras for what is resting in the bottom of your closet, stuffed in your garage and in a corner of your basement. Be prepared to answer questions and be willing to visit with potential donors any time.

2. Go to these websites and find out more about the Liga Menor. In November, the Liga Menor played in an international tournament, many teams wearing donated equipment.

3. Obtain a FREE Youth Soccer Leaders Program Program Kit and begin your own soccer gear collection project, no matter how small

2. Decide which groups) you will target for your outreach

There are several groups you may choose to target

Target # 1 Soccer moms you know whose kids have been in soccer before

Target #2 Soccer moms whose kids are still playing soccer

Target # 3 Soccer groups like AYSO

Target # 4 Soccer clubs

Target # 5 Soccer State Association

Target # 6 High School Soccer programs

Target # 7 College Soccer Programs

Target # 8 Amateur Adult Soccer Teams

Target # 9 Professional teams

Target # 10 Soccer tournaments

Target # 11 Elementary, high school and college students who have played soccer

Target # 12 Anyone with whom you would like to share information about the Youth Soccer Leaders Program.

Target # 13 Churches that may have soccer programs

Target # 14 Organizations like the Boys and Girl Clubs, Kiwanis, YMCA

Target # 15 Volunteers like Soccer Moms who want to get involved in soccer gear collection and discussion and want to lead a cleat drive.

Let's assume you want to target anyone who might have an interest in volunteering to head a cleat drive. The following scenario assumes you are attempting to share information with anyone, and when special groups develop you will develop specialized information for each.

3. Decide whether to focus locally or to include the Internet

PLAN

Write down the following things on a one page plan.

1. How much time you plan to spend

2. How much interaction do you already have in the soccer community in your area

Conclusion: You can change the lives of children in Honduras with your used soccer gear. Want to ensure that these deserving youth get a change to play the beautiful game?

Then it is up to those of us who are involved with soccer and see the power that giving can provide to our privileged youth to promote and publicize the Honduras Youth Soccer Program which includes a soccer gear donation project and the Youth Soccer Leaders Program in our the local area. If several hundred people who believe in the soccer gear donation project's potential for impacting the lives of these youth would develop similar outreaches, thousands and boys and girls in Honduras would be able to play in organized soccer programs by the year 2010.
