They do not like not understanding internationals. They do not have the time to ask you to repeat what you said. Nor do they like to admit they don’t understand. It is vital you learn to speak English so they understand you clearly. Making the sounds of American English speech correctly with extensive role playing and practice is your key to success. This course uses one of Dee Brightman's pioneer books, "How to Make American English Speech Sounds." Extensive role playing and practice are a vital part of this course. TABLE OF CONTENTS Chapter 1. 24 leading reasons why most internationals find it impossible to correctly pronounce American English speech sounds Chapter 2. you'll know how to make sure you get a complete system for learning Chapter 3. learn and apply American English in your business Chapter 4. You use these vowels including e as in "we", i as in "in", a as in "paper", e as in "egg", and a as in "apple". You contrast these vowels with o as in "olive" which is not a front vowel. You learn business planning phrases which use the front vowels. You practice special business dialogs. Find out how American English changes in informal and formal situations. Chapter 8. How to use the schwa "e", the most used sound in American conversational English speech. In Tongue Chart two you learn how to pronounce the important central vowels, all voiced. You learn and apply the rules for making these sounds, learning where the tongue is placed, how the teeth are held and how you shape your lips. Chapter 9. Covers the important back vowels and diphthongs with Tongue Chart Three. You learn how Americans use their lips and jaws and speaking much more than most internationals you get many rules and examples of back vowels "oo" as in moon, "uu" as in book, "o" as in go, "au" as in Opaul, "o" as in olive. You contrast these with central vowels such as "u" in up. You also get all important practice in the use of the ever present diphthongs. Chapter 10. Here in Tongue Chart Four you learn just how important the difference in your tongue, lip and teeth position is in making the r and l sounds, a distinction many internationals have difficulty making. You learn to make these two sounds differently so you get rid of the 'foreign sound. The r and l sounds are key components in many Asian accents. You learn to speak each clearly and distinctly. Chapter 11. Here in Tongue Chart 5 you learn how to make two important consonant sounds, the unvoiced th sound as in thank and the voiced th as in the. You get insights into the t sound in tent as well as the d sound in dish. The only difference is that one is voiced and the other is unvoiced Chapter 12. Special insights into making the sh and zh sounds and gives you exercises that enable you to distinguish them from the sound of s in snake, the sound of z in zipper, the sound of t in tent and the sound of d in dish. In English many words end in s. But they have many and varied pronounciations. You learn how to make all of them correctly with Tongue Chart 6. Chapter 13. Continues to gives you key insights into making the ch and j sounds and gives you exercises that enable you to distinguish them from the sound of sh in shop, the sound of zh in pleasure, the sound of t in tent and the sound of d in dish. the sounds of ch and j are made the same way except one is voiced and one is unvoiced. You learn how to distinguish between all of them so you make all of them correctly with Tongue Chart 7. Chapter 14. The three sounds f, v and w which all use the lips, one way or the other. The sound f is a unvoiced continuant, v is a voiced continuant of f, and w is a glide. These are often confused by European language speakers. You learn to make them correctly in Tongue Chart 8. You learn to use these sounds with import export languages and international business facilitation procedures. Chapter 15. Once you master (After you study) the f, v and w and learn how the parts of the mouth are placed in making these sounds, you begin understanding how to use the closely related p and b sounds. In Tongue Chart 9 you learn to distinguish between p and b and f and v. You learn how to pronounce the important voiced sound, "m", a nasal sound. You learn and apply the rules for making these sounds, learning where the tongue is placed, how the teeth are held and how you shape your lips. Chapter 16. Here in Tongue Chart Ten you learn just how important the difference in your tongue, lip and teeth position is in making the k and g sounds, a distinction many internationals have difficulty making. That is because many languages do not have voiced sounds at the end of words. You learn to make these two sounds differently so you learn to speak each clearly and distinctly.
