Soccer For Life is a Nonprofit organization dedicated to making the world’s most popular sport available to all the children of the Western Hemisphere. We intend to collect old soccer balls, shin guards, old soccer shirts and shorts, repair them, hold fund-raisers and develop training and coaching for Mexican, Honduran and Nicaraguan.  In Honduras, Soccer for Life offers the Honduras Youth Soccer Project.

Mountain Children Often Play Soccer In Rubber Boots Because They Don't Have Cleats. One Player Wore These Torn Sneakers To Play In Because They Were The Only Ones He Owned.  Please Donate Soccer Cleats and Athletic Shoes For These Youth.

Help Us Build Soccer Programs For The Poorest Children In Honduras

The pine forest is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The tall trees, the wind whistling, the pine cones dropping, the needles singing.

Yes it is beautiful. But a pine forest is often found on the poorest soil because pine trees can grow almost anywhere they get a chance. As a result those who live in these pine forests are surrounded by beauty.  But the poor thin mountain soils do not produce much.   A small crop of potatoes, enough corn for tortillas and some beans which they must sell for needed items like salt, clothing, etc.

And since the mountain pine forests are over 6000 feet in altitude, it gets cold.  Indeed we are looking at winds of 30 -40 miles per hour coming down with constant brisa(A foggy rain that never stops),  During this time of year many many children come down with pneumonia.

In these mountains there is no recreation. The houses of adobe(mud bricks cut directly out of the poor soils which cannot grow even the smallest crop) lose pieces of dirt and then the cold winds blow through the houses.  Since many children sleep on the dirt floor(the lucky ones have cardboard cartons) they get very very cold. Indeed the cold mountain air feels like knives of ice when all you are wearing is a worn t-shirt and torn pants.

Yet they love the game of soccer.  If they are lucky enough to have a ball they play with it until it is completely destroyed.  If there are no balls they play with soda bottles, rocks or anything they can kick.

After A Donation Concurso The Young Players Had Balls But Their Soccer Field Is Still A Sea Of Mud This Young Fellow Was Not So Lucky And Did Not Receive a Pair of New or Used Tennis Shoes. Maybe With Your Help - Next Time We'll Have More To Give
Beautiful But Nothing To Eat Corn and Soccer Are All They Have

This is the part of Honduras where Soccer for Life is building its soccer program.  Here is where your donation come.  Here is the place where the donation concursos are held. Here is where we are building the LIGA DE LAS COMUNIDADES INTIBUCANAS.

We invite you, your club, your league, your association to participate in helping us build soccer teams in an area this difficult.  Will you help us give these poor children what they need to play the beautiful game you know and love?

Here are some ways you can help:

1.  Adopt -A- Team

You are invited to "Adopt ATeam". What does it mean? That means you become part of a cross-country Soccer Community. It means your team will come to Intibuca and play in the annual Youth Leadership Tournament in  Intibuca.  It means your team will share its old soccer gear, nets, balls with your team in the Liga de Las Comunidades Intibucanas. That means you create long term friendships with the players on your team. It means you learn enough Spanish to communicate with your team. It means you write letters to your team members. (The Liga de Las Comunidades Intibucanas will translate the letter for you). It means you exchange photographs with your adopted team.

It means you hold a cleat drive in your community at least once a year to collected used soccer gear for your team. It means you get a t shirt with the name and logo of your team to take home. It means you stay in the home of your team members when you come to Honduras. It means you bring at least one gift for a member of your team when you come. It means you email your team members. It means you learn something about the culture of the Lenca Indians of Intibuca. It means you learn how to interact with someone of another culture.

It means you hold a fund raiser, a car wash to raise money for your team to provide water for your team during its games. It means raising money for snacks during the game. It means raising money to buy them a goal net, practice pinnies and cones.

2.  Participate in Project Athletic Shoe For Youth Empowerment As A Coordinator.

Ask all the parents and adults you know to clean out their old athletic shoes, basketball shoes and running shoes and bring them to you. Ask them to donate ten dollars for shipping to Honduras. You as  coordinator  collect the athletic shoes.  The cost of shipping 500+ pairs of shoes to Honduras is around $250.  All you need is a contribution of 25 people to pay for the shipping.   Go to the page Project Athletic Shoes For Youth Empowerment for details on the project.  You can send out emails to all your friends and ask them to help. CLICK HERE for a sample email letter you can send out.

All You Have To Do IS Collect 500 Pairs of Athletic Shoes/Soccer Cleats and Pay The Shipping Cost To Honduras. With This Gift, Your Group Build A  Youth Empowerment Small Tourism Project In Their Village. CLICK HERE And Take A Look At How Your 500 pairs Of Shoes Will Change A Young Person's Life.  And each of these projects will develop a small soccer field.

Where Can You Find 500+ Pairs of Athletic Shoes?

There are many ways to collect your 500+ pairs of shoes.  Here are some ways

1.  Ask each member of your organization to collect athletic shoes from their closets, garages and basements.

2. Place a collection box in your organization meeting home

3.  Have a "Athletic Shoe Potluck" and have each person bring a pair of shoes along with the food

4.  Talk to other local organizations with thrift shops and ask them to donate a few pair

5.  Talk to your local shoe stores and ask them to donate a few pair

6.  Ask to put up a box in the local high school

7. Go to your local college and ask them if they have a recycling program and will they help by collecting at the college

8.  Ask your employer if you can collect athletic shoes there

9.  Talk to the mayor of your town and ask him for support

10.  See if you can put a public service announcement on local radio or television

11. Talk to your pastor

12. If you belong to organizations like Kiwanis or Lions Club see if they will help collect at their meetings

13.  Give out flyers wherever you go (We will be having a pdf file online soon that you can download and print)

14. Take off your athletic shoes and add them to the mix.

15.  Your own ideas....

3.  Collect Unused Sport Equipment and Materials from your closet, Storage Unit, Garage and Basement and Ship Them To Honduras

Everything you no longer use can be used by the Honduras Youth Soccer Project.  We need uniforms, t shirts, shorts, socks, nets, balls, medals, trophies, warm-ups, jackets, sports bags, water bottles, nets, portable goals, soccer cleats.  It doesn't matter what it is if you had it for sports activities and you still have it, we can use it.

4.  Buying Shoes For Children and Young Adults

We are creating a line of athletic shoes and soccer cleats that can be purchased for a small amount of money. These are for the youth (teenagers) who demonstrate some talent and could have a future as soccer players.  Good soccer cleats or athletic shoes will be available for purchased here for 300-500 lempiras (15 to 20 dollars)

5. Sponsor A Donation Concurso

Many community want to hold concursos.  These concursos draw the people together.  Here's one concurso where hundreds of children and adults came together.  The children to compete, the adults to watch.  The concurso is like a field day in the USA.  The soccer gear you donate, the funds you send for shipping enable these communities to come together for a day of clean fun and soccer. Here the mayor of San Miguelito welcomes Soccer for Life to a large concurso held in this mountain community.  Not only did we enjoy the races, we also helped out with a little coaching for goalies, which is sorely lacking here.  As a result, we are offered many opportunities to teach character.

6.  Volunteer In Honduras With Project Athletic Shoe For Youth Empowerment

This is a unique volunteer opportunity to be a part of the pioneering Recycled Athletic Shoes Financing program.  You will live in Intibuca and participate with Peace Corps volunteers,  international volunteers, Intibuca Youth Soccer Volunteers in planning and supporting youth in their small scale tourism projects. These projects will be funded by the Recycled Athletic Shoe Financing program.

7.  Sponsor a City Wide Athletic Shoe and Soccer Cleat Drive

Want to really make a big difference?  Help us by setting up a athletic shoe drive in your city.  We have flyers and other support documents we can email you.

8.  Donate Cash For Shipping Donations to Honduras

The cost of shipping by boat to Honduras is one of our major obstacles in serving these children.  We need funds to ship boxes of goods we already have.  Whatever you are willing to donate is welcome.

9.  Become An Intibuca Youth Soccer Volunteer

As a soccer volunteer in La Esperanza, you can affect the life of a child. You can help a child with limited soccer skills to fit in. You can help build soccer fields. You can help build training equipment. You can show kids how to perform drills. You can share training tips with coaches and trainers. You can develop training regimes. You can become an integral part of the building of the Intibuca Youth soccer Center. And you will enrich the lives of the youth of Intibuca. CLICK HERE for information on this opportunity.

10. Sponsor  An Intibuca Youth Soccer Volunteer

Many caring youth and not so young want to serve as soccer volunteers.

You Can sponsor one or more volunteers to come and work with these deserving children.

11.   Donate 1% of the Receipts of Your Tournament To Soccer For Life

Please email us at sfl@satglobal.com for information on sharing your cup of hope.

Tax Deduction Statement Is Available.

Soccer for Life is a non profit 501-(3) C organization designed to enable all the children of the Western Hemisphere to have the opportunity to play soccer, the beautiful game.  Soccer for Life has received a determination of tax exemption from Federal Income taxes . All contributions to Soccer For Life, Inc., are deductible under section 170 of the Code. That means that donations of cash as well as equipment, used soccer gear, vehicles, etc., receive a tax deduction from IRS. Any donation will be valued and you will receive a statement from Soccer for Life, Inc., that you can use to deduct from your income tax. We are classified as a public charity under 509 (a) (2) of the IRS code. We function under the laws of the State of Arizona and carry an Internal Revenue Service "Recognition of Exemption", No. 17053296009004

12.  Hold A Fund Raising Field Day In Your School

A Fund Raising Field Day is a fun, excitement day where your young athletes can have fun, get exercise, raise funds and build their personal self esteem. A Fund Raising field day is similar to a Donation Concurso we run with our soccer donations in Honduras. The difference, is that there are entry fees for athletes to enter the Field Day. These entry fees are used for defraying the cost of the Field Day and raise funds for shipping to Honduras. In addition to the entry fees, each athlete is required to clean out his or her closet or garage and bring the soccer items found there. In addition, each athlete will attempt to get sponsors for his entry fee as well as for sending to Honduras. We will put together a password protected page for your use once you decide to offer a field day.  In addition we will place your event on our Soccer For Life Fundraising Calendar with a link to your club web site.

13.   Promote The Soccer For Life Program In Your Community

There are members in your club or group that have soccer and sports gear in their closets, garages and basements. They don't know about our work in Honduras and how it is helping the poor children of Intibuca get what they need to play.  You are the key to sharing the Soccer For Life Mission with them.  Help us collect soccer gear and promote the Honduras Youth Soccer Project. You can stop the waste of used soccer gear in your community.  You can stimulate companies and groups to donate.  Help us Share The Soccer Gear Donation Project

14.  Buy A Square Meter Of Artificial Grass For The Soccer Field in Pinares

Because it rains so much in Intibuca, it is green like Oregon.  Unlike Oregon there is no money to level soccer fields, no bulldozers, no tractors. As a result when the community dedicates land to a soccer field, they find that when the rainy season comes it is a mud field.  We are seeking to obtain artificial grass for this field in Pinares so the children and adults can play yearround and play as many games as they want. There is no electricity in Pinares and therefore no TV no other activities except soccer. Won't you help us give these kids a safe place to play.  Muddy fields lead to injuries. There is no doctor in Pinares and during the rainy season often no one can leave the community. Nor will any doctor travel to Pinares. Won't You Buy A Square Meter Of Artificial Grass For This Soccer Field?

15.  Sponsor A Paver For Around The Soccer Field In Pinares

The outside of the soccer field in Pinares is full of mud.  Each time a player comes off the field or the ball comes off the field more mud is deposited there.  We are offering you a chance to make a lifelong commitment to being a part of the Honduras Youth Soccer Project by sponsoring a paver to surround the field so that mud is not taken onto the field and embedded in the artificial grass.  You can make a difference in this mountain village by sponsoring a paver.

Thank You For Caring And Sharing

We value every contribution you make to Soccer For Life. Our donors are the key to making a contribution to the children of Intibuca.  We thank you in advance for sharing with us and through us to the children of Intibuca.  However you choose to share, your gift will change the life of a child.
Soccer for Life, Inc., is an Arizona not for profit organization dedicated to youth empowerment, youth involvement and youth sports for personal development.  In support of this mission, Dr. Carol Cross, Founder and International Director of Soccer for Life invites you to participate in our programs in Honduras.  We are working to create confluence between youth in developed countries including the USA, Canada, European countries, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and youth in developing countries.  Confluence or moving together alongside is one of the most pressing needs of the 21st century.  Young people growing up today are going decide if it is war or peace.  They will decide to create friendships with those from other cultures or to act like enemies.  In addition, they are going to decide if our world will be green or brown, hot or normal.  Through Soccer For Life, our youth can build friendships, create new ideas, develop projects to fight global warming and change the world into a better place.

It is our feeling that everyone is seeking community, structure, meaning an a Superordinate Goal. We consider these the requisite for a life lived for sharing and receiving alike, supporting and being supporting, offering comfort and being comforted.  We call our "Personal Contribution To Life".

Soccer for Life is seeking your help to develop the Intibuca Youth Soccer Center where intend to create the Soccer  For Life  Ecolodge for sponsors, donors and patrons of Soccer For Life can come and relax and regenerate.  We are putting together a volunteer program, fund raising kits and all the support you need to make through Personal Contribution to Life.
