You Can Play With Atletico Lenca. Want To Play With Us For One To Eight Weeks And See If You Are Good Enough? Think You Are Good Enough To Share Our Dream Of The Intercontinental Cup?
The 1st Torneo Internacional Intibucana has come and gone in La Esperanza, Honduras. The tournament was a great success as visiting teams came from Tegucigalpa, San Pedro, Siguatepeque, Comayagua, and other communities in Honduras. In addition, the team featured a special invited team, the Abuja Unity Boys Football Club from Abuja, Nigeria. The Abuja Unity Boys came in second in Nigeria as subcampeons (subchampions) of that country of 120,000,000 people.
The players came, they marched from the Central Park through the town accompanied by a band, they ate together, they slept in local dormitories and hotels, they had fun together and played hard clean soccer. A great time was had by all.
Because of a travel glitch, the Abuja Unity boys only brought seven of their players with them at the beginning of the tournament. In the true spirit of soccer, they combined with Atletico Lenca to form a truly international team which then competed in the tournament. Because of the status of the Abuja Unity Boys they were invited to participate in a second tournament, Copa HonduProex in Siguatepeque, Honduras.
Games were played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The finalist team, Atletico Lenca emerged from the first tournament games. The first group of the Abuja Unity Boys then traveled to Siguatepeque to play in a tournament. There the Abuja Unity Boys combined with a team in Siguatepeque and together they defeated an adult team of the Liga Mayor. One of the players, Abdul, received the trophy for player of the game after scoring three goals. They also traveled to other cities and played friendly games.
The plane bringing the rest of the team was expected the next morning in San Pedro Sula. The Liga Menor coaches were staying in Siguatepeque, 3 hours by car from t he airport in San Pedro Sula. The second group of members of the Abuja Unity Boys Football Club finally arrived in Honduras at 9:30 PM that night instead of the next morning. We received the call at 10 PM that the team was at the airport in San Pedro Sula. We told the players not to leave the airport, to wait for us The airport closes at 10:30. So we got into the team bus and drove to San Pedro Sula. We arrived at the airport at 1:30 AM. The team was gone. The airport security guard said they had left with the Honduras National Under 20 team and was at their party. So we drove into San Pedro Sula and spent an hour finding out where the party was. Indeed there was the team. So we left about 4 AM to drive back to La Esperanza, a 4 hours drive.
The next Sunday the final game and since the Abuja Unity Boys team was now complete, it was decided to create a team that could present some competition. So Atletico Lenca combined with the best players from the entire state of Intibuca. Still the Abuja Unity Boys defeated the Intibuca State Soccer Team, 5-2.
Here are pictures of the tournament, the games in Siguatepeque and scenes of La Esperanza, the site of the tournament.
