Index To Questions and AnswersQ. Is There A Site Map For The Soccer For Life Website? There is a site map for the Soccer for Life site at http://www.satglobal.com/site_map.htm Q. What is the Soccer Gear Donation Project?A. The Soccer Gear Donation Project is a joint project between Soccer for Life, Inc and the Liga Menor de Futbol Intibucana in the mountain state of Intibuca, Honduras. The Lenca Indian children of Intibuca love the game of soccer. But the average income in Intibuca is (36-54 Lempiras) or 2-3 dollars per day. And a rubber, round ball that can be used for soccer will cost a minimum of 100 Lempiras. That's more than a day's pay for a round ball. Actual soccer balls cost 500 Lempiras ($27). Poor people who live on beans, rice, coffee and sugar cannot afford to buy soccer balls. Let alone uniforms, soccer shin guards or cleats. And in the USA, every year, thousands of used soccer balls, old uniforms, cleats in good condition are thrown out. And hundreds of thousands of perfectly good, usable soccer items languish in closets, garages, basements and storage rooms. It's time to bring those usable items out of the dark into the light where they can be shared with needy youth in Honduras. Find out more about the soccer gear donation project. One of the most crucial needs is uniforms. There are many children who would like to play soccer, boys and girls alike. The need for uniforms is key because the sense of community is conveyed by being able to wear a uniform. The Uniform is the piece of equipment that unifies individual into a team. Without uniforms that represent their team, there is a sense of fragmentation. teams need to wear the same uniform each time they play. Spectators need to come to know the team by its uniform. If a team wears a yellow uniforms one game and a blue the next and a green the third time, non one can become deeply involved. How can you say GO Blue team one day and Go Red Team the next or Go Green team on another day. Where is the team spirit? One things I notice with donated uniforms is the lack of horseplay among players. They consider playing soccer a privilege and take their responsibilities seriously. Go To Top of Index Q. What is the Youth Soccer Leaders Program?A. America is the leader of the world. The young people growing up in the United States will lead the world. The way they think about others will determine the future not on of our country, but the future of the world. If our young people grow up selfish, self centered and caring only about its own interest, our world will be even more dangerous. You see we as a people are being watched. The way our youth act is the way young people around the world will act. They are emulating our music, our art, our movies. If we show compassion, others show compassion. If we say that the poor are important, others will say the same. We are leaders and our youth are leaders. That is why Soccer for Life, Inc is developing the Youth Soccer Leaders Program. This is a program to share with our soccer youth, the joy of giving. It is designed to teach Leadership Through Sharing. Our youth learn to be grateful for what they have and open themselves up to sharing with others what we take for granted. They lean to share, to work together in collecting soccer gear through a cleat drive. I know soccer youth are compassionate. I have seen soccer teams that refuse to blow out another team, because they do not want to humiliate another lesser team. I have seen soccer kids bring extra balls to practice for those who may not have balls. I have seen our soccer kids show compassion and caring for others. The Youth Soccer Leaders Program enables our youth to fight global warming at the same time they becoming compassionate leaders. Go To Top of Index Q. What is the Honduras Youth Soccer Project?A. Why Does the Soccer Gear Donation Project Focus on Planting Trees?A. As we watch the Tsunami roll across the Indian Ocean, killing over 200,000 people we begin to wonder if Global Warming is setting in. Four hurricanes cross Florida in one year. The Blizzard of '05 with record snow. Droughts in the Far West. All this wild weather could be the beginning of a change in the Earth's climate equilibrium. Soccer Moms in Their SUVs are being blamed for Global Warming. Soccer Moms have soccer kids who do care about the environment. Planting trees is our best ways to combat global warming at this time. Find out more about global warming on these webpages: Nothing We Do Matters if Global Warming Kicks In. Find Out More About Halting Global Warming. Other pages include Global Warming, Before Global Warming, and During Global Warming. Go To Top of Index Q. What is Global Warming and What Does It Have To Do With Soccer?A. The soccer youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. They will inherit the world we are creating today. But they can do more than just passively wait to inherit a world changed by global warming. They can become leaders now by fighting global warming through planting trees. Soccer players add to Global Warming by the trips their parents take in their SUVs to soccer practice and soccer games. With 17,000,000 children playing organized soccer, that's a lot of automobiles trips, a lot of gasoline burned and a lot of gases emitted into the atmosphere. Every tree we plant offsets these emissions. Go To Top of Index Q. Why Should We Plant Trees?A. Tree planting is our number one tool for combating global warming at this time. And since the world weather system is all one system, planting trees in one place can offset global warming thousands of miles away. Here are some reasons trees are so vital:

Now this is not your usual US kind of soccer academy. The fees for attending the academy will be between $3 to $6 per month. That is right., Per month. And many children we will be working with will not have that so we will have to provide scholarships. But we desire the involvement of donors. We are making plans to bring down youth groups, adults volunteers and others who want to help these youth. If you want to come to Honduras to La Esperanza, we can find soccer parents who can provide low cost homestays like $200 for 10 days for room and board. Now that means eating beans and rice, chicken on Sunday, and the other local foods like lots of fresh vegetables. Once we get our first building for the Intibuca Youth Soccer Center, we will be able to provide sleeping quarters at the $200 level for anyone who wants to come down and share with these kids. What Do We Get For Donating Soccer Gear?A. There are four things we all need to be fulfilled human beings: Community - We need to feel we belong. We want to feel we belong and we want to feel safe. Children wants to know how to belong and be safe, not to be made to feel bad about himself and how to be okay. First of all let’s define what a community is. Soccer for Life defines a community as - a group of organisms who have a shared vision, shared goals, shared values,. who value each other and believe that the other members of the community also have value and worth. In addition, within a community, members communicate that value through self esteem building. By sharing our soccer gear with kids in other countries, we acknowledge we belong to the entire world of 200,000,000 soccer players world wide. We all love the game, we wear the same kinds of uniforms, we play with the same ball, on the same kind of fields with the same rules. We belong to the beautiful game. Structure - We provide the needed structure when we involve youth and adults in the donation and other programs. Here at Soccer for Life, we do not expect you to develop the materials you need. We will provide you with flyers, membership cards. And most importantly you know where your donations are going. And you are invited to come to Intibuca and see kids playing in donated uniforms. We continually post on our website children playing in donated materials. And once we develop the Intibuca Youth Soccer Center, people will be invited to come and stay and work with our kids as volunteer coaches and mentors. We will update each part of the Intibuca Youth Soccer Center as it goes up. Each volunteer will undergo a training program in working with these kids. Nothing will be left to chance. We all want to know how to be successful, how to be rewarded for doing our chosen part of the task. This program is designed to create success in its participants. Meaning - We want the things we do to matter. Acceptance by our peers is one of our most important and deepest needs. Kids who do not meet the standards of others kids are often rejected, ostracized and become loners. I think none of us want to have our child be bullied or be the scapegoats. Sports skills is one of the key ways kids can avoid this type of rejection. But participation this program, your child has found a way to do something that really matters, something can change the life of a child. By providing these uniforms and other materials, a child's life may be saved from drugs, alcohol, prostitution, even death. Participating in this soccer donation project has meaning. A superordinate goal - It is vital that at an an early age your child learn to give. So each child is taught how to build the self esteem of others in the class, to give support, and to work together with others. Something it is a surprise to child to find out he or she can give comfort to other kids who may have faced problems or tragedy. Your children will learn how good it feels to give, how wonderful to see other benefit, and how much they really have to offer. Go To Top of Index Q. Why Should We Care?A. Our soccer kids have all the new uniforms, travel teams, snacks during their practices, water bottles and doting parents they need? Why does it matter about these kids overseas? One of the major problems we are facing is illegal immigrants. Kids who have lived on the streets, without parents come to our shores without a regard for our rules and laws and cause problems. Even more vital is the fact that the world gets smaller every day. It is a two hour flight from Honduras to Miami. We should care because if we do not help these kids in their own country, they may bring their pain and their anger to our shores. Finally we need to care because as Americans, we are the leaders of the world. What we do, say matters. To whom much is given, much is expected of. We have been given much. Now we are expected to give. Go To Top of Index Q. What is Leadership Through Sharing?A. How do you change the mind of another being? How do you get people interested in following you. Why should someone listen to you. Isn't it because you showed you cared about them. Leadership through Sharing is just that, leading others by expanding their permitteds, by giving them more options, by making it possible for them to get what they need. Kids in every country want to play soccer. By enabling them to play the game they love, you can change their minds. You can gain their trust. And once they trust you, they will follow you. Go To Top of Index Q. I Am A Christian. Why Should I Care About Planting Trees In Honduras?A. Most of the mainstream churches are involved in the Ecojustice movement, restoring God's Creation. If you want more information on this, email Dr. Cross at sfl@satglobal.com for the free Special Report " Our Ecological Mission To Replant God's Ancient Forests", with its goals based on the Bible. We are dedicated to this Eco-Justice Bible Based human vocation given us by God. (Genesis 1 and 2). The Bible is the ultimate ecology textbook, giving up explicit directions for maintaining species diversity, keeping ourselves in harmony with our fellow humans, with nature and with God's Creation. This is our ecojustice mandate given to us in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Our community is dedicated to the Restoration of Creation and the replanting of the forests of the earth as mandated by the Bible. The land of the Earth is sacred to God and is given to us in trust. Go To Top of Index Q. I Do Not Have Any Soccer Gear, But I Would Like To Help. Can I Contribute Money?A. In order to get our donated soccer gear to Honduras we have to ship them by FEDEX or UPS to Miami, Florida where a boat travels to Honduras every two weeks. We have to pay for boxes to ship the goods in, for shipment to Florida and for subsequent shipment of Honduras. We must pay a freight forwarder to bring the items from customs. Our last shipment cost us nearly $1000 in duties. Then we have to take a full day trip to San Pedro Sula to bring the boxes back to La Esperanza. We must rent a vehicle to carry them to La Esperanza. We are trying to get a bus donated that we can bring to Honduras to use to travel to San Pedro Sula to get the soccer gear which also can be used to transport kids and coaches. For that reason, any money donated will be used for shipment of goods, payment for gas and truck rental in Honduras. Go To Top of Index Q. Can I Get A Tax Deduction For What I Donate?A.
