Ten Tips For Building Self Esteem"I See The Infinite Potential In You", Dr. Carol CrossYou Can Build Self Esteem In Your WorldLet's Bond And Link Together To Solve Our ProblemsI see your infinite potential. You are a citizen of the world with unlimited God given capabilities. In addition, each person living on this planet is in a global world ocean and in a global environmental weather system. We share the air that others have breathed. Similarly, the water I am drinking has been drunk by many others at other times. We are each a unique complex of education, experiences, dreams, goals, ideas and desires unlike anyone else's. WE ARE EACH PART OF A GREAT TAPESTRY OF LIFEEach one of us is a part of an infinitely large tapestry. Only as each of us potentiates can the final tapestry be perfected. And only you can create your part in the tapestry. Only as you are enabled to reach your dreams can your life be potentiated and your part in the tapestry be perfected. That is why it is vital to build the self esteem of others. That is why I am dedicated to building your self esteem. But, even if we perfect our part by doing what is right for us, if the part next to us is torn, tattered, or weakened by life, then our part can be more easily destroyed. We must build the self esteem of each other so the tapestry can be maintained and enhanced. Ten Tips For Building Self Esteem In Our WorldHere are some tips for building self esteem in your local world. Try doing as many of them as you can. 1. When you open your eyes in the morning turn over to your significant other and say "You are the best thing that ever happened to me". Then get up and continue with your morning routine. 2. When you see your child, connect with your eyes and say, "You are the child of my heart, my body, my spirit. I am so happy to have you in my life." 3. When you leave your house say to it, "Thanks for keeping me safe last night. You are a good house, apartment, boat, etc." 4. When you go to your workplace, greet the first person you meet by crinkling up your eyes, smiling and saying "Hey, Tom (or Judy). It's good to see you." If you are going to work with them on a project, say, "Looks like we'll we working together today. I'm looking forward to it." 5. At lunch, pick a co-worker that most people ignore. Go over, smile and say, "Mind if I sit and eat with you? I've been meaning to get acquainted with you. Tell me about yourself." 6. When it is time to leave for home, wait until everyone else leaves. You may tidy up your desk. Make a habit of saying good-bye to each person in your group by name. If you see someone carrying an armful of work, step up to the door and say, "Hey, you really are dedicated to the firm. It's a good company. I am proud of your sincerity in getting the work done. Good work." 7. When you are in traffic and you are in a long line, smile and let someone go in front of you from a gas station or other driveway. 8.· When you enter your home and your spouse is cooking dinner after coming home from work, go in and join in. You could say, "Jack (or Jan), I'll bet you are as tired as I am. Let's work together so we can finish this faster. (Roll up your sleeves.) What do you want me to do?" 9.· When your child comes home, put down your newspaper, turn off your computer or TV and ask him or her to tell you what happened today. Ask about the homework. Say, "Can I help with that? Do you have any problems you need help with?" Or say, "I used to have problems with that. Maybe I can help you get through it." 10. When you get ready for bed, say to your family, "From now on we're going to share a group hug." If they are shy, let's make this a research project. Let's test the power of hugs. Someone said everyone needs 10 hugs a day. Let's start with one and see how it works out. As you hug, look each one in the eye, and say "I love my family. I'm the luckiest person in the world to have you guys in my life." See how doing these ten tips increases the self esteem energy in your life. Because of the fact that many of our Youth-At-Risk have not yet learned the social manners of those in mainstream youth leagues and soccer clubside, we feel that these youths should play among themselves until they gain better social skills. We will be teaching soccer skills, social skills and character skills such as teamwork, dealing with anger and self control. |
