Dr. Carol Cross. Director, Leucaena Production Society
To create a sustainable economic development program in a country requires extensive training and information transfer. ISAI is a learning organization which is developing its own unique Learning system based on edutainment and the Arboleņa worldspace. A Leucaena Effect Agroforestry (LEEAF) Academy will be opening in Honduras in the fall of 2005 to teach a series of certification courses, designed for every one interested in economic development.
The courses are equally valuable to the individual seeking to develop a small scale Leucaena project as to a Ministry of Development in a country. It is directed to landowners and campesinos, leaders in the community, in NGOs, in cities, states, and national governments as well as in local communities. These Leucaena Effect Agroforestry courses will be taught at the LEEAF Academy, opening in La Esperanza, Honduras in September 2005.
The courses are based on the "Leucaena Effect Agroforestry Series", presently under preparation by Dr. Cross and colleagues in Honduras. The course is written for use by people in developing countries and includes information transfer, hands on activities, groups and community building activities and ecological principles, all based on sustainable business development. It will include a wide variety of development modules, all based on the use of Leucaena as the basic raw material for industry and for regeneration of soils and to fight the famine cycle model which is spreading worldwide.
These courses will be presented as a long term series of certification workshops and seminars leading to various levels of Certification in Leucaena Effect Agroforestry. There will also be facilitator courses for those who wish to learn to teach Certified Leucaena Effect Agroforestry courses in their country.
Each of the courses integrate the learning of native speaker fluency in American English (English for Economic Development) created by Dee Brightman, as an integral part of the learning experiences.
How can you develop a sustainable economy (business) that can grow as your population grows, provide foreign exchange, continue to prove more and more jobs, maintain and even improve your environment?
The answer is Leucaena Effect Agroforestry. As sustainable economic development becomes more and more necessary due to global warming, more and more projects will be required to meet the insatiable demand for livestock feed, fuelwood, fertilizer, paper, furniture, green manure, and other uses. Leucaena Effect Agroforestry combines the most important parameters for sustainable development.
To develop your county you are going to need many sustainable development projects. Leucaena is a low cost source of raw material for rural agroindustrial development. Leucaena based Rural Agroindustrial Centers (RAICs) is one method of development that tropical countries can utilize.
In tropical developing countries, it is appropriate to base your internal development program on natural resources like Leucaena. You can also meet your needs like food production through the development of small scale industries. Small scale industries based on Leucaena can be developed into export products such as livestock feed, paper, fuel briquettes. These can generate foreign exchange, since it will be difficult to develop without bringing in foreign exchange.
The early US was a failing economy until slavery provided foreign exchange through the sale of cotton to England. Once a foreign market had been developed and brought in the needed resources for development, ultimately the USA became a self sustaining economy.
In order for your economy to become self generating, you are going to need foreign exchange to develop needed infrastructure. You'll need the resources to provide needed social and other services to your people. Once you have this in place, you can then provide these services to your society.
Economics dictate. You cannot give from an empty dish. Until you get a flow of foreign exchange, you won't be able to meet the needs of your people. That means your economic development strategy should be partially based on gaining foreign exchange, such as export. Why does an export strategy work for development?
LEEAF based Rural Agroindustrial Centers can provide export that creates business development at many levels in a country. By creating a Leucaena Effect Agroforestry based economic development model, you will be able to focus on sustainable development at the same time you create jobs and bring in foreign exchange. Here are some of the kinds of businesses that will be developed in your country if you base your development on the Leucaena Effect Agroforestry model:
There are many more businesses that will be developed. You can develop your own Leucaena Effect Agroforestry project or create a sustainable economy based on Leucaena Leucaena Effect Agroforestry. Let's see how the computer based industry created economic development in the USA and created vast wealth within the last 20 years. Now is the time to begin your development of a Leucaena project. The ones who take the greatest risk get the greatest profit.
