What are you permitted to do?

If you got all ""As" on your report card, would your mother look like picture A, B or C

Do you believe you can choose how your life will turn out?

Do you believe that words have power?

Take a look at CHOOSING TIME

You see SOME word pairs

Cover up the first one and say the words to your self

I am Ugly -  I am Beautiful

Then Say the Second line "I am beautiful."  Didn’t you feel different when you were saying these different words

Here is the Poem -- You Are Such A Wonderful Child

You are the most important person in my world

When I look at you, my heart seems to be full

I feel a warm softness curling inside me

I love you so much

You are the living being breathing part of my deepest and most powerful dreams

I watch you grow and remember how I loved to hold you when you were a baby

I remember the feel of your fuzzy cheek against mine

But...

Sometimes I forget

How important you really are

how much I care

How wonderful you truly are

I work hard for you

I want to see you look perfect

Because in my heart of hearts

You are so important so wonderful - you must be perfect

Everyone should see how wonderful you really are

When you come into the living room

All dressed for school

I do not seem to notice that you got all your clothes on

and that doing that is hard for little hands to handle

It's hard to do the buttons

Just pulling on clothes is difficult

For someone just learning how to perform these complicated tasks

I don't see how hard you worked to get so many right

All I see is the one button you buttoned wrong

I see the one button you put in the wrong hole

Your collar is wrinkled and you just don't look right

I don't seem to understand that everything you do like

Trying to talk fluently in a foreign language

When you've only had one year of study

If only I could remember to reward you for getting dressed at all

If only I realize how blessed I am that you are healthy

You are intelligent you are strong enough to dress yourself

Why can't I build your self esteem by mentioning what you did right

Why can't I say you look good but it would look even better

Somehow I only seem to see what you did wrong

I don't seem to see at all that

you did it

some parents have children who are too defiant to even

Follow anything they say

They just say no

you are not like that

but sometimes I forget to appreciate

just how good you really are

And its so funny I get upset at work

when the boss doesn't appreciate my efforts

that do not turn out perfect

I say he doesn't appreciate what I try to do

and yet when you try I get mad when you don't do it right

I come into your room and find one homework sheet

on the floor that wasn't done

you may have done 5 to 6 other sheets

but all I can see is the one that wasn't done

I wish I could protect you from myself sometimes

I want to send a bodyguard with you

when I send you off to school

I know I am sending you

to the wars

things are much harder for you than when I came along

more drugs more things to do more possibilities for trouble

I wish there was a way to stop the bullies on the

playgrounds from bothering you

to make you the most handsome and most popular boy in your class

to help you be the smartest girl in your class

I wish I could just wave a magic wand

and create a different world for you

a world in which you would be a prince the star

sometime I daydream about the kind of world I would like to give you

and I forget

there is already a place where you can be a star

a place where I can tell you all the good things about you

a place where I can build up your feelings of being good

a place where you can be safe

but I don't seem to remember how safe I can or could make it

for you

instead I make it a place of pain a place where I criticize

I nag I complain I am never satisfied

I don't make you the star at home...

I'll try to do better to be more loving

but you need to know that the way I am is not a way I chose

as child I heard it all

all the bad things about myself

its deep into my heart and mind

all those words about being bad, stupid, backward, no good

I am just repeating the word to you

the words I heard as a child

and those are all the words I said

I would never say to my child

I want to be different

I say I will be different

but when the moment comes I know

All the old tapes keep coming out

I love you I want to say the words

I want to give the love I feel for you

I'm going to try

when you do some of your homework

I am going to talk about the good work that you did

I will no longer focus on the part you didn't do

if you get dressed in the wrong clothes

or put your clothes on the wrong way

I'll say Great you got dressed maybe I can help you a

little....

or maybe you didn't notice.....

perhaps I could....

what if we...

I am going to say 'You're such a wonderful child ' every chance I get

that will be the phrase I will use every time I think about it

when I just look at you I will say to you

You're such a wonderful child

its hard for me to change

every day I relive my childhood

I have lived life

the way my mother and father lived with me

I learned so well to look at what is wrong

instead of what is right

I don't even see the good part you did

I look and my eyes pick out that one piece of lint

on an otherwise perfect jacket

all I see is just the few things that are not quite perfect

its no wonder you get tired of hearing me

and start to tune me out

just don't want to be around me

don't want to hear anything I say

from now on I will say every chance I get

"you're such a wonderful child

because you really are

the most important person in my world
