Understand & Bridge The Cultural Gap Between You And Your Child

You and your child live in two different cultures. Here are some basic differences:

CULTURE ONE - Parents & Grandparents

CULTURE TWO - Today's Young Soccer Athletes

Grows up on farms

Grows up in cites or suburbs

Worked 10-12 hours per day

Children seldom work

People live where they work

People commute to work/

Walked to school

Rode to school in bus or car

Obedience a given

Do their way and not obey

Very little time to play

Much time to play

Very few toys - a bicycle is a luxury, homemade toys

Video games, own computers, computer games, game arcades, more than one bicycle, scooters, rollerblades

Few books and no special media

Books, libraries, TV programs some that flaunt authority

Very few career options

Unlimited career options

Seeks security, food, shelter

Wants pleasure and fulfillment

Horizons were limited

Unlimited horizons

Seldom traveled widely as a child

Often traveled across a continent or country

Only you as a parent can decide what values you want to transfer to your child.  You know what you believe in and what you want your children to share of your family traditions and culture.  Soccer is a way to transfer those values.  Without preaching.  Simply as two people talking over a shared experience.

a. Something is wrong

Parents and children are not connecting, sharing, communication, building mutual inters. As a result, the older the child get, the less we know about their, who their friends are, what they do, more importantly what their values are and what they feel.

b. Why is this wrong?

Our children do not share our values and they do not seek out opportunities to discuss their interests with us. Thus a long period time can pass and we have not intimately shared with them our personal character traits, values or ideals. Meanwhile their open minds are picking op values from others, who may not share our own.

c. The Results

Often parents think, well they’re no problem. They’re quiet. Or they'd doing all right. Then when we have allowed ourselves to pull so far away from them we never make eye contact or speak, we are shocked, dismayed and alarmed adhere they go so far form our values and commit acts that may be at worst illegal and at best questionable. By this time it is too late for us to intervene and turn the situation around.

Once they get our attention through these dangerous behavior, about all we can do is look at them with anger, or reprimand them. But because we have not shared in their lives and transmitted our values, they are not interested. We did not participate in their lives while they formed these values. Now they are not interested in what we have to say. They are out of reach and may never come close to us again.

d. How can this wrong be corrected?

Each of us can develop a mutual interest with your child through theGuerreros de Relampago  Soccer Mastery program.  You can learn Soccer Mastery Skills

Soccer is the fastest growing sport in America. Yet many of our children are coming to soccer late. By the time our child decided he or she wants to learn soccer, they enter a soccer program with kids who have played 4, maybe five years. If your child at 11 oar 12 enters such as program, the kids who are experienced want to win. They are competitive. And the addition of your child, who has no skills will hold them back. Many times children can be forced off a soccer team through ridicule because they are not at a at par with the others.

What if you got involved with your child in soccer in a program where you child could develop a higher level of soccer mastery than the kids who have played for 4 to 65 years. And what if you develop alongside your child. What if you learned the basic skills to you could work with your child at home.  A and what if you started communicating with your child your values and ideal through the acquisition of soccer skills?

By working along side your child as he or she learns soccer mastery you achieve these results:

Your child will believe you are are interested what he is interested in

You can talk to your child about the practice and what you both feel about what he did in the class

You can share ideas with your child about how he or she can perform better

You can tell your child how proud you are of his her progress

you can share ideas about perseverance, loyalty, all your character ideal by talking about the sport of soccer

You can say the self esteem building words that enable your child to believe in himself\you can encourage peak performance at each practice

You can share the Practicing for Life module with him

You can become experts together about the sport and share discussion about soccer player in the hew world. Who is the greatest soccer players in history? Greatest team?

You can be seen as a partner in helping him achieve his potential

You become a trusted person to talk with about mistakes and problems in soccer because you help him understand how to learn from mistakes

You can create a real relationship with your child through soccer.

Remember what is happening in youth sports. Our young people do not yet know who they are and they do not know who they can become. Can they win in life? Can they succeed in achieving their goals. They are going to need adult help to do that. But youth sports can teach us some important lessons if we are willing to help our youths learn to win.
